Life Camp
"I like Life Camp because every year we do different activities, and go to new places outside of camp. I learn new life skills that I can use day to day. I look forward to going every year." Jackie
Life Camp at Camp Allen is a seven day program for young adults who want to live more independently.
Unlike other sessions of the summer, Life Camp is a small group of no more than 12 campers. This allows the group to bond, work as a team, and let their voices be heard. For some participants, their goal of living independently may be just beginning. For others, they may be well on the way and need to further develop existing skills. Life Camp provides opportunities for growth, and will provide support regardless of where the camper is on their journey. Included in the tuition fee for this session, is a $100 allowance that each participant in Life Camp will receive, to pay for their food, transportation, fun, and any other expenses they incur during the week.
The curriculum is varied with opportunities to learn and grow. Some of the topics covered include:
Developing a resume and interviewing techniques, that will then be put to use in a mock interview with a local professional.
A medical doctor will lead a discussion on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
A local legislator will talk about advocacy and how our government works.
How to budget their money.
How to compromise when accommodating shared-living.
Learn time management skills.
Cooking and healthy eating.
Life Camp is a really exciting week aimed to encourage, challenge and bring out the best in those participating. It is a chance to make new friends and work together towards the same goal.
